Our new SMC guidebook covers

You may have noticed the front cover of Scottish Winter Climbs West is a beautifully rendered painting of Church Door Buttress by Christopher Smith-Duque. Why have we chosen this?
Climbing and scrambling in Scotland is more than just moving on rock. It’s an immersive experience where you can become lost in the landscape and spend a day without seeing another soul―just you, and the mountains. We want the covers of our guides to evoke memories and inspire dreams of the Scottish hills in a way that a photo of a climber on a route cannot. Chris’s style of painting―bold, elegant and closely observed―uses rock features and light to draw you into some of the finest lines on Scotland’s ridges, buttresses and north faces. As our series of books unfolds, we hope you enjoy seeing Scotland showcased in this unique way.
