I lie and listen
beneath the balsa-cored fibreglass
to the rain pattering
the hail battering
like myriad tiny footsteps
or a chorus of heavy-booted tapdancers
intricate sonic textures
overlaying the whine of the gale in the riggings
the high wailing of the seals under the pier
an unholy choir
a wild orchestration
the rhythmic slap of a halyard keeping time
