Sharon Black is from Glasgow and lives in a remote valley of the Cévennes mountains, splitting her time between rural France and the Scottish Highlands and islands. Much of her work focuses on place and on the body. Her passions include hiking, train travel and dancing, and she has frequently danced on hikes but not yet on trains. A former journalist, she returned to creative writing once her younger daughter started school full time. Since then she has published five full collections of poetry and a pamphlet and has won many poetry competitions, including The Poetry Society’s inaugural Tobias Hill Prize. Her new collection, Things That Fruit in Darkness, was published in 2026 by Vagabond Voices. She is editor of Pindrop Press.
