Dr Calum Carswell is a Scottish writer and composer, whose craft is shaped by a unique blend of neurodivergence, diverse expertise, and a deep commitment to nature conservation. He completed his PhD under royal composer Paul Mealor, after serving as composer-in-residence at St Paul’s Birmingham, and his compositions have been performed across the UK and featured on the BBC. Whilst Calum’s approach is rooted in his love for creative writing, it draws on both his expertise writing for magazines and academic journals, and his practical experience volunteering with the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland. Whether prose or composition, Calum’s voice remains distinct, intricate, and deeply attuned to the rhythms of both mind and nature.
